Fees, tips, and what the family actually receives
“What will this cost?” is the first question most organizers hear. This explainer repeats the current public FAQ — including the rounded $100 example — and does not invent other take-home percentages.

Transcript
When someone you care about is facing medical bills or a sudden loss, surprise fees are the last thing you want to explain. Here is FundTheFirst’s current public FAQ language, not a marketing rewrite.
FundTheFirst does not charge platform, administrative, setup, goal, or payout-request fees. Stripe’s standard 2.9 percent plus 30 cents credit-card processing fee currently applies. That processing fee is deducted from donation proceeds rather than added on top of the amount the donor entered.
The FAQ’s rounded example: on a $100 donation, the beneficiary receives approximately $97 after Stripe processing. That is the example we will use. We are not going to invent a different take-home rate, a typical tip percentage, or a conversion figure.
Donors may also leave an optional tip to support the platform. A tip is not required to give, and a tip is not the same thing as the donation that goes to the beneficiary.
